In a concerted effort to address the pressing challenges posed by global population growth, climate change and food waste, the InsectERA Agenda has emerged as a beacon of innovation, paving the way for alternative food and nutritional solutions. Alongside, other industries, like cosmetics and bioplastics, will also benefit from the processes and products developed from this highly versatile raw material, being important parts for the One Health assessment. This transformative initiative will contribute to the green transaction towards environmental sustainability.

Solfarcos, one of the 42 entities promoting the Project, is focused on creating technologies for the Industry axis, using insect-derived products to develop new raw materials for cosmetic applications.

Throughout the execution period from 2023 to 2025, the InsectERA Agenda intends to promote the circular economy and catalyze the development of products, processes and services with high added-value. With a focus on generating a new production sector and establishing several bioindustrial units and R&D centres, which will originate employment opportunities, the Agenda is poised to reshape the insect bioindustrial sector and position Portugal and Europe at its global forefront.

As an integral part of the consortium, Solfarcos is committed to driving positive change, harnessing the potential of insects as a tool to create a more sustainable future.
